Reproduction of Prometheus Fresco,, 1930
Scope and Contents of the Collection
This collection consists of articles, pamphlets, news releases, and newspaper clippings about Jose Clemente Orozco's life and his murals and artwork on college campuses. The collection particularly takes focus on his mural of Prometheus inside Pomona College's Frary Dining Hall. Several of the articles capture the controversy surrounding Orozco's Prometheus and the bipolar public opinion that incensed public discourse about the piece, within and beyond the college. In the collection, clippings feature images of the mural finished and in-progress, Orozco's other murals in other colleges in Mexico and the United States, as well as pictures of Orozco himself. The collection also consists of letters of correspondence that contain biographic information on Orozco, as well as public opinion on his artwork. Lastly, a comic book details the life and work of Mr. Orozco.
