Physical Description

Quarto. Blue textured leather over paper boards with gilt decorations. A collection of 209 sepia toned photographs measuring between 1.5 x 2 inches and 5 x 7 inches with captions and drawings throughout mounted on stiff gray paper.

General

A photo album from 1943 of a Chinese American solider, Horace Fong, and his new wife, Ann, who were both stationed with the Navy during World War II. The photos show the newlyweds in California after they moved to San Francisco for the Navy. They are seen with friends in and out of uniform participating in activities including swimming at the beach, horseback riding, rowing, and picnicking. There are also professional photos of the couple and friends at “Charlie Low’s Forbidden City” which boasts it’s “America’s world renown all Chinese supper club” and Slapsy Maxies. There are also photos of other Asian American servicemen and women including a photo of a young friend, Donald Fong, dressed in his R.O.T.C. uniform.
