Altar Native Sun, Issue 6
Scope and Contents of the Collection
The Radical Newspaper Collection consists of newspapers and periodicals related to activism, counterculture, and social movements in the United States. The bulk of the collection spans the years 1965 to 1974 and primarily includes small-run, underground publications created by activist, political, or social organizations and student groups. A large portion of the collection highlights materials published in California, particularly Berkeley and the San Francisco Bay Area. The included newspapers and periodicals vary in focus, but common themes and topics include anti-war demonstrations, student activism, social, labor, and civil rights movements, feminism and women’s rights, environmentalism, and American counterculture movements and groups. Background and publishing information about specific publications is included where possible. This is a growing collection, and new materials will be added as acquired.
