Scope and Contents
This series consists of letters, postcards, and radiograms from 1926 to 1977 from Ch’en’s friends, family, students, colleagues, publishers, and the Republic of China government, as well as Ch’en’s correspondence drafts. Ch’en kept in contact with Chinese scholars such as Hu Shih, Fu Ssu-nien, Lin Yutang, and Chiang Mon-lin to discuss academic issues, education methods, and contemporary political situations. Ch’en also corresponded with students such as Chu Wen-djang (朱文長) and Laurence (Larry) G. Thompson (譚維理) who asked for Ch’en’s advice on their research. This series also includes H. M. Loh (羅孝明)’s letters studying Su Manshu (蘇曼殊), and C. N. Laird’s correspondence about his life experience at Canton Christian College.

In this letter, Fu Sinian invited Ch'en Shou-yi to take a teaching position at Peking University. He mentioned a few attractive terms including title, salary, benefits, and the abundant academic resources as well as the collegial harmony that Peking University had to offer.
