Scope and Contents
This series consists of letters, postcards, and radiograms from 1926 to 1977 from Ch’en’s friends, family, students, colleagues, publishers, and the Republic of China government, as well as Ch’en’s correspondence drafts. Ch’en kept in contact with Chinese scholars such as Hu Shih, Fu Ssu-nien, Lin Yutang, and Chiang Mon-lin to discuss academic issues, education methods, and contemporary political situations. Ch’en also corresponded with students such as Chu Wen-djang (朱文長) and Laurence (Larry) G. Thompson (譚維理) who asked for Ch’en’s advice on their research. This series also includes H. M. Loh (羅孝明)’s letters studying Su Manshu (蘇曼殊), and C. N. Laird’s correspondence about his life experience at Canton Christian College.

本件為友人錢端升(1900-1990,法學家,曾任教於清華大學、西南聯合大學,為第1屆中研院院士)所寄信函,共3封。第1封為1940年2月19日,內容說明已到達香港以及談及國內現況;第2封年代不詳,內容提及西南聯大「今日評論」雜誌發行相關事情;第3封年代不詳,內容為婉拒陳受頤的捐贈,並說明國內現況。
This item includes three letters from Ch'en Shou-yi's friend Ch'ien Tuan-shêng. In the first letter, Ch'ien informed Ch'en that he had arrived in Hong Kong. He also talked about the war situation in China. In the second letter, he talked about the publication of the journal Ch'ien created in the Southwest Associated University, which was titled Today Review. In the third letter, Ch'ien respectfully declined Ch'en's donation and talked about the political situation in China.
