Scope and Contents of the Collection

The collection features materials belonging to Pomona College music professor Arthur Hitchcock, including 20 manuscripts of musical compositions written by Hitchcock; personal papers and correspondence; programs for Arthur Hitchcock’s performances and student performances at Pomona College, Brown University, and Portland State University; music manuscript scores by Leo Rowlands, Charles Davis Tillman, and Gustav Holst; and miscellaneous writings, books, programs, and clippings from the 20th century.

Biography / Administrative History

Arthur Hitchcock was a professor of music at Pomona College, as well as a pianist and accompanist with the Pomona Glee Clubs. He conducted the Pomona College Choir from 1948 to 1949, and the Men’s and Women’s Glee Clubs from 1947 to 1949. After leaving Pomona, he taught at Portland State University.
