Biography / Administrative History

D. Kenneth Baker (1923-2012) was Harvey Mudd College's second president from 1976 to 1988, succeeding Founding President Joseph B. Platt. During his 12 years of leadership, Baker was instrumental in increasing the College's enrollment, facilities and prestige, and guided the College through technical innovations and social changes. He oversaw the acquisition of land and property to meet major campus needs, which included upgraded laboratories and the construction of two additional residence halls (Atwood and Case Halls), allowing for all students to be housed on campus at the time.
