Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series: Approximately two thirds of the materials in this subseries are photographs of aircraft, primarily of U.S., French, and German manufacture, 1899-1956; the remaining third consists of postcards published circa 1930 of historic aircraft and models in the Science Museum, London. The earliest photographs, dated October 1899, are of the engine built by Stephen M. Balzer for Samuel P. Langley's unsuccessful airplane.
