Daguerreotype, in tooled leather case (3.75 x 3 inches).

Note

Labeled: "OP 62". No David and Anna Coleman of the appropriate age can be identified in Providence in the early 1850s. Abby Hirschfeldt (1863-1950), was born in Providence, the daughter of John P. Smith (born Scotland, circa 1818) and his wife Harriet D[avis] Coleman (1831-1884). Harriet was in turn one of the children of William Coleman (1799-1869) and his wife, Harriet Davis (circa 1802-1875):

  • 1. William Coleman (born 1830), photographer (who may have taken the photographs).
  • 2. Harriet D[avis] Coleman (1831-1884), married 1856: John P. Smith.
  • 3. Abby R. Coleman (born 1834).
  • 4. Sarah Coleman (born circa 1839).
  • 5. Anna Coleman (born circa 1842).
