Copies of Campus Photographs, 1931
Scope and Contents of the Collection
The Elizabeth Paull Bunje (1909-2004) Papers include correspondence, notes, schedules, maps, photographs, course catalogs, financial records, newspaper clippings, poetry, class reunion memorabilia, a diploma, and other materials documenting Bunje's experience during and after her time at Scripps College from 1927-1931. As a member of the first class to graduate Scripps College, Bunje's papers capture the history and culture of Scripps and the Claremont Colleges as a whole at the time. The Scripps campus was physically distinct - apparent in the maps from the period - and culturally, evident in students' dress and celebrations in Bunje's photographs. Bunje continued to save correspondence, pictures, and reunion memorabilia after graduation, allowing the collection to span from 1926 until she attended her final reunion in 1991. Her correspondence from her years after college include letters to and from Ada Watkins Hatch, her close friend at Scripps. Ada was also involved in reunion organizing after graduation. The papers provide insight into early Scripps graduates' lives during and after college. The collection also contains a book of poems, "Summer Melodies," a gift from Ellen Browning Scripps for Christmas 1931.
