Scope and Contents of the Collection
The Susan Lautmann Hertel Collection contains illustrated poems, preliminary sketches, photographs and posters of oil paintings, and other materials by and relating to the artist Susan Lautmann Hertel (1930-1998), Scripps College class of 1952. Of note are her poems, most of which reference the animals she kept and her life on the ranch. Hertel illustrated these poems and addressed most of them as holiday/New Year’s cards from herself and her family.
