Karen Sue Halvorson Miller Papers, 1962-1967
Scope and Contents
The Karen Sue Halvorson Miller Papers consist of correspondence, financial records, printed ephemera, and Scripps College publications from 1963-1967.
The collection is arranged into four series:
I. Correspondence, II. Financial Records, III. Newspaper Clippings, and IV. Scripps College.
The Correspondence series comprises most of the collection and primarily consists of letters Halvorson wrote to her family throughout her undergraduate years as a student at Scripps College. The letters provide insight into the experiences Halvorson had in and out of the classroom, from study dates and tests to local and out-of-state holiday trips.
The second series, Financial Records, consists of handwritten notes concerning travel expenses for a trip to Los Angeles and a check stub.
The third series, Newspaper Clippings, consists of various newspaper articles concerning The Claremont Colleges from 1964-1966.
The final series, Scripps College, is comprised of materials by and about Scripps College, such as publications, correspondence, and financial aid records. Publications include single issues of the Scripps College Alumnae News, Fall 1965 and a 1966 Scripps College Report. In addition, this series also contains a memorandum about college scholarship grants and honors, and a Business Week article about women's college admissions, both of which mention Scripps College. For correspondence, materials include letters addressed to both the Halvorsons [Halvorson Miller's parents] and the general student population of the college. Financial aid records include a "Summary of Financial Aid Information" addressed to Halvorson from the Scripps College Finanical Aid Office and Halvorson's aid acceptance letter.
