The Oriental Study Expedition Archive contains records and memorabilia from a year-long expedition embarked in 1929 by ten Pomona College students to immerse themselves in Chinese life, culture, and religion. The first section of papers contains marriage investigation records kept by the San Gabriel Mission from 1788 to 1861. An alphabetical index indicates the folder number of each item. This collection consists of a variety of materials from Ken Tamura’s life. Ken Tamura was 2nd generation Japanese American born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, in 1923. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, his family was sent to a relocation center in Pomona (California), and then relocated to Heart Mountain internment camp in Wyoming.
