American Missionaries and Educators in China

Abstract The collection contain correspondence, diaries, writings, photographs, reports, article clippings, and booklets that document the experiences of American missionaries and educators in China. This collection was assembled through the China Missionaries Oral History Project at Claremont Graduate School from 1969-1971. The collection covers the years 1889-1972 with the bulk of the material ranging from 1910-1950.

Ballet Folklórico Mexicapan papers

Overview The Ballet Folklorico Mexicapan Papers contain the history of the Ballet Folkorico Mexicapan company, which existed for ten years from 1973 to 1983. Led by Benjamin Hernandez and Patricia Barrigan, the company aimed to preserve and display the rich traditions of Mexican folklore through dance, leading workshops and events. The collection contains flyers and programs for these events from throughout these years, as well as photographs of the dancers and company paperwork.

Boulder Water Company papers, Water Resources Collection

Abstract The Boulder Water Company was incorporated October 25, 1919 as a mutual water company and was officially dissolved in June 1979. Located in Claremont, California, the Company operated one well and two reservoirs for the benefit of its stockholder members. The collection, which came from the corporate secretary, consists of correspondence, legal documents and financial records of the Company and is most complete in the company’s last 15 years, 1964-1979. Minutes from the meetings are complete.

Abstract Chan Doo Sung (1898-1971) was born in Canton, China. At age 18, Chan set sail from China on the S.S Shinyo Maru. He was admitted into the U.S. as a student and entered the U.S. at Angel Island in San Francisco in 1916. Chan came to intern with his uncle, who ran Chinese medicine offices in the U.S successfully, so to speak and learn English and take over one of the offices. Abstract Professor Ch'en Shou-yi (Chinese: 陳受頤, 1899-1978) was a Chinese scholar known for his groundbreaking contribution to the comparative cultural studies of modern China and the historical studies of Sino- western cultural exchange. He was born into a prestigious literati family in Panyu, Canton (Guangdong). Ch'en Shou-yi graduated from the Canton Christian College (later Lingnan University) in 1920.
