Scope and Contents The Matthew Arnold Collection represents the writings of Matthew Arnold 1822-1888 with 437 volumes of his works, among these all but two first editions of his writings; four autographed letters; biographical and critical items pertaining to this author; and other letters of literary interest. Contributions to journals by and about Arnold are part of the collection. Originally purchased in 1942, the collection has been augmented over the years.
