Scope and Contents The Matthew Arnold Collection represents the writings of Matthew Arnold 1822-1888 with 437 volumes of his works, among these all but two first editions of his writings; four autographed letters; biographical and critical items pertaining to this author; and other letters of literary interest. Contributions to journals by and about Arnold are part of the collection. Originally purchased in 1942, the collection has been augmented over the years.

Abstract: Dr. Frank Parkhurst Brackett was born in Provincetown, Mass. in 1865. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1887. Immediately after he graduated he moved to California. Carroll Jr. Carroll taught at Pomona from 1949 until 1983, and was a key actor in the development of Pomona's art history program.
